Missions/Main Duties

As a generalist biologist specializing in natural environments, the selected candidate will participate in habitat restoration and creation projects for various valued components, including wetlands, forest environments, fish habitat, and wildlife and plant species with special status.

  • Participate in the desk-based identification of degraded natural environments and restoration opportunities in various geographic areas.
  • Contribute to the analysis of offsetting needs for various valued components, including wetlands, forest environments, fish habitat, and wildlife and plant species with special status.
  • Participate in the identification of environmental and conservation organizations that may act as partners in the planning and implementation of restoration projects.
  • Conduct thematic research related to habitat characteristics, the needs of wildlife or plant species, and applicable restoration approaches.
  • Collaborate with environmental organizations, municipalities, and other stakeholders in the development of partnership-based offsetting projects.
  • Participate in the design of habitat restoration and creation projects as part of multidisciplinary teams.
  • Carry out field validations and inventories of natural environments to be restored.
  • Contribute to the documentary follow-up of offsetting needs as well as ongoing and completed projects, including loss accounting and the adequacy of offsetting measures.
  • Participate in the preparation of offsetting plans.
  • Monitor regulatory developments regarding federal and provincial requirements applicable to offsetting obligations for major projects.
  • Prepare the documentation and materials required for discussions with various stakeholders.
  • Participate in meetings with the relevant ministries and organizations regarding offsetting projects.
  • Contribute to the preparation of authorization applications required for the implementation of habitat restoration projects.
  • Carry out environmental monitoring of natural environment restoration projects, when required.
  • Support the team in any other related activities associated with environmental and offsetting mandates.

Profile/Skills

Education : Bachelor’s degree in biology or in a field related to the environment. A master’s degree is considered an asset

 

Years of experience : 2 to 5 years of relevant experience.

 

Technical competencies :

  • Experience in habitat restoration or applied ecology.
  • Strong knowledge of provincial and federal environmental laws and regulations.
  • Excellent writing, analytical, and synthesis skills.
  • Good computer skills, particularly with the Office suite.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS and geomatics is an asset.
  • ASP Construction training is an asset.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, both in French and in English*
