We are seeking a Civil Lead Engineer to lead and coordinate the review of shop drawings for civil works on complex construction or infrastructure projects. This role sits at the interface between design, construction, and project management, ensuring that contractor-submitted drawings comply with project specifications, design intent, applicable codes, and site constraints. The position is critical to maintaining technical quality, constructability, and timely approval workflows throughout project execution.

The Civil Lead Engineer is responsible for managing and executing the technical review process for shop drawings related to civil works, including structural interfaces, grading, drainage, roads, utilities, foundations, and associated infrastructure elements. The role ensures that submitted documents are accurate, coordinated, and aligned with contract requirements.

Key responsibilities typically include:

• Lead the review and approval process of civil shop drawings submitted by contractors and subcontractors.
• Verify compliance of drawings with IFC documents, design criteria, project specifications, standards, and local regulations.
• Identify discrepancies, clashes, omissions, and constructability issues in submitted documents.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including structural, architectural, MEP, geotechnical, and construction teams to resolve technical comments.
• Issue review comments, track revisions, and ensure timely closure of technical queries.
• Support the engineering manager or project manager in maintaining drawing review schedules and approval turnaround times.
• Ensure that approved shop drawings reflect site conditions, method statements, and construction sequencing requirements.
• Participate in technical meetings with contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to clarify design and review comments.
• Monitor document control processes related to submittals, revisions, and approvals.
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and reviewers involved in civil document assessment.
• Contribute to risk identification related to design coordination, execution constraints, and quality compliance.
• Support site teams during construction by clarifying approved details and resolving engineering issues when needed.

The ideal candidate is a technically strong and detail-oriented civil engineering professional with proven experience in design review and construction documentation.

Typical requirements include:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Solid experience in civil engineering, with significant exposure to shop drawing review on building, industrial, or infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of civil design principles, construction methods, and technical specifications.
• Ability to review drawings for roads, drainage, utilities, earthworks, concrete works, and external works.
• Familiarity with international and local codes, standards, and QA/QC requirements.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, calculations, and material submittals.
• Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams and contractors.
• Good understanding of document control and submittal workflows.
• Proficiency in tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Bluebeam, BIM platforms, or other drawing review software is often preferred.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Good communication and technical reporting abilities.
• Ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced project environment.
• Leadership capability, with experience guiding review teams or interfacing directly with clients and contractors.
• Professional certification or membership in an engineering body is a plus.
