Context

SYSTRA Canada is seeking a Montreal-based legal counsel to support and advise the engineering team on a wide range of legal matters, including engineering, claims, risk management and litigation issues related to its transportation projects. The successful candidate will work full-time, under the guidance of SYSTRA's legal department, with the project management and commercial team.

Missions/Main Duties

  • Draft, revise and negotiate contracts, sub-contracts, letters and other legal documents as required;
  • Provide legal opinions and contribute to risk analyses of commercial aspects of the project;
  • Participate in the negotiation process between the customer, partners, sub-contractors and suppliers;
  • Interpret project-related contracts, laws, regulations, decrees and other legal texts, while ensuring that the consortium's interests are adequately protected;
  • Work with the legal departments of both entities forming the consortium, as well as the project manager, risk and procurement teams, to assess contractual requirements;
  • Identify risks, issues and conflicts to be resolved.

 

Profile/Skills

Education: Bachelor's degree in law and member in good standing of the Quebec Bar.

Years of experience: More than 5 years of relevant experience in commercial/contractual law, either in-house and/or in an engineering firm.

 


Technical and personal skills:

  • Relevant experience in litigation, construction/engineering law, and the execution of large infrastructure projects remains an asset but not a prerequisite;
  • Ability to work on a wide range of legal topics, manage multiple files and adapt to changing priorities;
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a multidisciplinary work environment;
  • Ability to understand the business needs of the engineering team, providing timely commercial and legal solutions;
  • Ability to positively influence project stakeholders;
  • High level of autonomy and proactivity, with ability to work under pressure;
  • Analytical, problem-solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills;
  • Excellent French/English verbal and written communication skills;
  • Methodical, flexible, dynamic and good communicator.
