Context

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Tunnel Design Engineer to lead and support the design of underground works for metro rail projects and Tunnels with conventional method. The successful candidate will play a key role in the planning, design, and delivery of tunnels and associated structures, ensuring engineering excellence and compliance with all relevant codes and standards. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-profile urban transport infrastructure and passenger/freight railway network.

Missions/Main Duties

  • Lead and manage the design of tunnel structures for metro rail systems including bored tunnels (TBM), cut-and-cover tunnels, cross passages, and station boxes.
  • Review and design work of tunnels with conventional method (NATM) of passenger/freight railway tunnels.
  • Perform geotechnical and structural analysis for tunnel linings, temporary support systems, and excavation sequences.
  • Review geological and geotechnical data to inform design assumptions and construction methods.
  • Collaborate with alignment, station, track, and systems design teams to ensure interface coordination and integration.
  • Prepare and oversee design deliverables including drawings, reports, specifications, and calculation packages.
  • Ensure compliance with client specifications, local regulations, safety standards, and international best practices.
  • Provide technical guidance to design team and participate in design reviews and interdisciplinary meetings and to ensure quality check of the technical documentation.
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve technical issues and support construction.
  • Conduct risk assessments, constructability reviews, and value engineering for tunnel design options.
  • Availablity to go on business trips for clients meeting and discussion as per project requirements.

 

Profile/Skills

  • Masters of Technology in Tunneling and Rock Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer or Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred.
  • Minimum 13 to 15 years of relevant experience in tunnel engineering, with at least 10 years in metro and high speed rail projects.
  • Proven expertise in design and analysis of underground structures with different methodologies like TBM, NATM, Cut and cover etc. 
  • Proficient in relevant design software such as PLAXIS, ROCSCIENCE, FLAC, MIDAS, STAAD.Pro, or similar.
  • Experties in Numerical Modeling and structural analysis associated with underground structures or tunnels.
  • Strong understanding of ground-structure interaction and construction techniques in soft ground and urban settings.
  • Responsible for leading tunnel and underground structure works related to metro and high speed rail projects, including managing and mentoring a team of engineers.
  • Knowledge/experience with application of design codes and standards for geotechnical and structural design
  • Excellent project coordination, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Preferably with UAE or GCC Experience.
  • Experience in Marine projects
