Context

We currently have an opportunity for an Assistant CDM Engineer to join our growing System Safety team . This position will suit an Engineer who wants to take their knowledge and practical understanding of both the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM)  and System Safety Engineering one step further in a supporting role to a key Project within Systra’s portfolio.

The role will be fully supported by the Systra System Safety Team and training and mentoring shall be made available to help develop the successful candidate.

 

Missions/Main Duties

As an Assistant CDM Engineer you will be accountable for:

  • Working with Systra and Client Projects to ensure both support the System Safety team working within some key projects to ensure that CDM is applied both efficiently and compliantly.
  • Assist Systra Principal Designers in the execution of their duties whilst themselves learning the role
  • Undertaking regular monitoring and inspection of company projects to report on levels of compliance and identify lessons  learned and opportunities for improvement
  • Provide support to the System Safety Team in the administration and facilitation of Hazard Identification, Hazard Review    and Hazardous Operations Workshops.
  • Work with the System Safety team to promote effective Design Risk Management throughout the company.
  • Working with the Systra Systems team to increase your understanding on the practical application of CDM in the design phase with special emphasis on design risk and hazard management, competence and procedural CDM applications.
  • Provide assistance to the company with regards business development and continual improvement through collaboratively  working with other disciplines to enhance Systra’s service delivery and processes.
  • Provide Advice and Management on issues involving CDM and hazard management as well as other regulatory        requirements relating to Systra’s portfolio of works ( multi-sector construction).
  • Production of Key CDM related documents including Hazard Records, Pre-Construction Information management, and workshop reporting’s.
  • Assist the System Safety Team and provide advice on issues involving System Safety and participate in Safe by Design initiatives within the company

Profile/Skills

  • Have an general understanding in the application and management of CDM in a multi-disciplinary project environment and the willingness to take it further.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to work with and assist in the development of a growing Systems Team
  • Able to manage and plan your own workload effectively working both as an individual and as part of a team.
  • Able to foster high levels of co-operation and co-ordination between project teams and individual members
  • Ideally membership of or working towards membership of a relevant professional institution
  • Ideally +2 years’ experience within the railway industry working within a design setting.
  • An understanding of engineering and operational design within the railway environment and considerable experience in the construction, operation and maintenance of a rail system. ( Desirable but will be introduced to the successful applicant where required)
