Context

 

In this role, you will oversee the testing and commissioning of all vehicle systems on railway rolling stock (coaches, cab cars, locomotives, gensets, EMUs, DMUs, etc.), ensuring they meet operational and safety standards. This role requires a deep understanding of vehicle systems, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to manage testing and commissioning processes to ensure the successful handover of fully operational vehicle systems to the client.

 

Missions/Main Duties

 

  • Lead and oversee the testing and commissioning of railway rolling stock vehicles and systems to ensure full functionality, integration, and compliance with project standards;
  • Develop and implement testing and commissioning plans, while managing resources and coordinating with teams, contractors, and vendors to ensure timely delivery;
  • Provide technical expertise to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently, minimizing project delays;
  • Ensure accurate documentation of all testing and commissioning activities;
  • Serve as the main point of contact for vehicle testing and commissioning, providing regular updates and technical support to stakeholders.

Profile/Skills

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or certifications in project management, electrical systems, HVAC, or plumbing are a plus.

 

Years of experience: Minimum of 8 years’ experience in the testing and commissioning of vehicles or systems, with at least 3 years in transportation or large-scale infrastructure projects. At least 3 years of workshop experience, preferably in a unionized environment.

 

Technical skills:

 

  • Proven experience managing the commissioning of systems such as power distribution, backup power, lighting, controls, brakes, compressors, HVAC, ventilation, toilets, and related components.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, including design, installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Solid understanding of relevant national and international standards (e.g., CFR, APTA, AAR, NEC, IEC, and local codes).
  • Proficient in using electrical and mechanical testing equipment, such as insulation testers, relay test sets, circuit analyzers, and pressure/flow meters.

Personal and soft skills: 

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, with strong technical support skills;
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills for effective team management and stakeholder coordination.
