Context

SYSTRA’s Mobility & Railway Business Unit is anticipating future growth, with new rail projects expected soon. To support these potential opportunities, we are looking for an experienced Technical Design Coordinator to join our project teams and contribute to our mobility solutions. 

 

The Technical Design Coordinator will support the delivery of multidisciplinary rail design project by coordinating detailed technical activities, facilitating information exchange, and driving integration across multiple design centres. The role involves close collaboration with various engineering teams to ensure consistency, quality, and timely delivery of all design outputs within the rail project scope. 

Missions/Main Duties

  • Design Coordination 
  • Coordinate the activities of multiple discipline design teams (civil, track, systems, structures, stations, etc.) and consolidate design deliverables from various design centres operating in different countries. 
  • Facilitate regular technical design meetings, ensuring alignment of design interfaces, resolving technical issues, and maintaining open communication. 
  • Support the development and review of design documentation, drawings, calculations, and reports for compliance with project requirements and industry standards. 
  • Technical Assurance 
  • Monitor design progress and support adherence to design schedules, milestones, and quality plans. 
  • Assist in implementing quality control procedures and participate in design reviews and multidisciplinary checks. 
  • Identify deliverables requiring specific multi-disciplinary coordination and integration review.  
  • Collaboration & Communication 
  • Serve as the technical point of contact between internal and external design centres, ensuring effective communication and information flow. 
  • Prepare and distribute meeting agendas, minutes, trackers, and follow-up actions for design coordination sessions. 
  • Help bridge cultural gaps between team members to ensure seamless technical coordination. 
  • Document & Change Management 
  • Assist in managing the Common Data Environment (CDE) for design documentation, supporting document control and version management. 
  • Track and document design changes, clarifications, and technical queries through appropriate registers and workflows. 
  • Stakeholder Interface 
  • Liaise with project managers, discipline leads, and client representatives to ensure smooth coordination and incorporation of feedback. 
  • Assist in responding to client comments and queries during the design phase. 

Profile/Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Railway Engineering, or a related discipline. 
  • Experience: 
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in multidisciplinary rail project design coordination. 
  • Experience working across or interfacing with multiple geographically dispersed design centres (including international teams). 
  • Skills: 
  • Solid understanding of the design process for major rail projects (conventional, metro, or high-speed rail). 
  • Familiarity with industry standards and railway design codes. 
  • Strong organization, communication, and teamwork skills. 
  • Proficiency in common design and collaboration tools (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM platforms, CDE systems such as ProjectWise, BIM 360, etc.). 
  • Proactive problem-solving and ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment. 

 

Desirable 

  • Previous experience on large-scale international rail projects. 
  • Exposure to digital engineering workflows and BIM. 
  • Knowledge of document control processes and ISO 19650 standards. 
  • Additional language skills.
