Context

As part of a multidisciplinary team focused on the enhancement and growth of modern rail systems, the Rolling Stock Engineer (Electrical & Mechanical) will provide critical engineering expertise supporting the procurement of new rolling stock and the evaluation and improvement of existing fleets and supporting systems. This role demands a balanced approach to technical rigor, system integration, and supplier collaboration, contributing directly to the reliability, safety, and innovation of the transport network.

Missions/Main Duties

  • Deliver robust analyses underpinning the procurement and performance assessment of rolling stock, focusing respectively on electrical and mechanical domains such as traction power, control systems, carbody, bogies, and related subsystems.
  • Evaluate and document system compatibility, lifecycle cost considerations, and interfaces with incumbent infrastructure to ensure seamless integration and operational consistency.
  • Identify technical risks, propose mitigation strategies, and support continuous improvement across all project phases.
  • Develop, review, and refine detailed technical specifications and procurement requirements in line with project goals, operational requirements, and industry regulations.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, consultants, and internal teams to ensure all sub-systems—electrical and mechanical—are well-integrated, resilient, and compliant with safety and performance benchmarks
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of vendors, reviewing technical submittals, designs, and proposed solutions for alignment with project objectives.
  • Facilitate the resolution of engineering queries during design, build, and integration phases, bringing both electrical and mechanical insights as appropriate.
  • Contribute to, or lead, the preparation and execution of test plans, validation protocols, and handover documentation for both electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Support or oversee commissioning activities, ensuring that deliverables achieve not just base compliance but also quality and reliability standards.

Profile/Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical /Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in rolling stock and rail systems, with a focus on electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrable track record in rolling stock or equivalent complex asset engineering, with strong domain knowledge (electrical or mechanical) and experience supporting procurement, integration, and/or systems enhancements.
  • Electrical: Knowledge of traction, auxiliary power, train control, and safety-critical systems; experience with industry electrical standards and system interfaces.
  • Mechanical: Expertise in carbody, bogies, braking, suspension, environmental control, and overall structural considerations; familiarity with relevant mechanical standards and technical requirements.
  • Analytical capacity to translate technical findings into practical engineering and procurement deliverables.
  • Effective communicator, adept in technical documentation, stakeholder engagement, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Commitment to innovation, quality, and operational excellence.
