Context

The System Assurance Specialist plays a pivotal role in promoting and validating the reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety (RAMS) of both new and upgraded rail assets. The role requires close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that system assurance requirements are clearly defined, implemented, verified, and documented throughout the lifecycle of procurement and system enhancement initiatives.

Missions/Main Duties

  • Develop, maintain, and implement system assurance plans, processes, and strategies in accordance with organizational policies and international standards.
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, safety, and O&M teams to ensure a unified assurance approach throughout all project stages.
  • Lead or support qualitative and quantitative RAMS analyses for rolling stock and associated systems, integrating risk assessment with system design and procurement processes.
  • Oversee the identification, assessment, and documentation of hazards, and ensure close-out through mitigations, design improvements, or process adaptation.
  • Ensure that system requirements—spanning safety, reliability, and performance—are adequately verified and validated across all project phases.
  • Facilitate audits, inspections, and independent assessments as part of the assurance process.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive assurance documentation, including plans, hazard logs, safety cases, and compliance matrices.
  • Ensure all assurance activities comply with relevant regulatory, contractual, and company requirements.
  • Liaise effectively with suppliers, independent assessors, authorities, and internal teams to clarify assurance objectives, share progress, and resolve assurance-related issues.
  • Support knowledge-sharing and the embedding of system assurance best practices across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Lead efforts to capture lessons learned and promote continuous improvement in assurance processes, contributing to a culture of safety and reliability.

Profile/Skills

  • Degree in System Engineering, Safety Engineering, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience of relevant experience in similar rail projects.
  • Demonstrable experience in system assurance, RAMS, or safety management within railway, transportation, or complex engineering environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of system assurance methodologies, RAMS processes, and relevant standards (e.g., CENELEC EN 50126/8/9, ISO 26262).
  • Proficient in the use of hazard identification, risk assessment, and assurance documentation tools.
  • Methodical, analytical, and detail-oriented, with excellent communication, facilitation, and documentation skills.
  • Collaborative and proactive, able to engage effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
  • Experience interfacing with regulatory authorities and independent safety assessors.
  • Certification in system assurance, functional safety, or related discipline is an asset.
  • Preferably with UAE or GCC experience.
