Context

The Signalling Engineer provides specialized technical leadership in the assessment, integration, procurement, and optimization of Automatic Train Control (ATC) and railway signalling systems, particularly as they interface with new and existing rolling stock and system enhancements. This position ensures all signalling solutions contribute to the safety, reliability, and capacity objectives of the project, while adhering to relevant standards and leveraging best practices in modern railway operations.

Missions/Main Duties

  • Conduct detailed assessments of current ATC and signalling infrastructure to determine upgrade requirements and compatibility with new rolling stock.
  • Analyze operational and capacity impacts of proposed enhancements, ensuring technical and functional alignment with project objectives.
  • Develop comprehensive technical specifications for signalling and ATC systems, ensuring their conformance to applicable standards and operational needs.
  • Review supplier proposals, system architectures, and design documents, offering expert input to optimize performance, interoperability, and safety.
  • Actively participate in technical evaluations and procurement processes for signalling and train control systems.
  • Provide engineering support to ensure seamless integration of signalling solutions with new rolling stock, legacy assets, and the wider rail network.
  • Develop and implement test plans for ATC and signalling equipment, including static, dynamic, and interface testing with rolling stock and other systems.
  • Oversee and document commissioning activities, collaborating with suppliers and operations teams to validate functional and safety performance.
  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with relevant railway safety, signalling, and interoperability standards (e.g., CENELEC, EN 50126/8/9, local regulations).
  • Contribute to risk assessments, safety cases, and RAMS analysis as part of the system assurance process.
  • Serve as the technical interface between signalling suppliers, rolling stock teams, project managers, and operational stakeholders.
  • Support knowledge transfer, training initiatives, and technical documentation preparations to strengthen project delivery and legacy competence.

Profile/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Railway Engineering, Automation, or a comparable technical discipline.
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience of relevant experience in similar rail projects.
  • Relevant experience in railway signalling, train control, or ATC systems engineering, ideally in a project-based or multi-system integration context.
  • Solid understanding of ATC, CBTC, interlocking, and classic signalling technologies.
  • Competency in reading and reviewing system designs, control architectures, and interface specifications.
  • Detail-oriented, methodical, and adept at technical problem-solving in high-reliability environments.
  • Effective communicator, experienced in cross-functional and multicultural project teams.
  • Familiarity with procurement, testing, commissioning, or system upgrades in major rail projects.
  • Certification or training in railway signalling standards, safety assurance, or system integration.
  • Preferably with UAE or GCC experience.
