Context

The Depot Specialist is responsible for ensuring the readiness, functionality, and optimization of depot facilities and systems in support of new rolling stock introduction and rail system enhancements. This role includes overseeing depot layout upgrades, maintenance equipment selection, operational workflows, and integration with wider network systems. The Depot Specialist acts as a key link between engineering, operations, maintenance, safety, and project teams to guarantee that depot solutions are robust, compliant, and futureproof.

Missions/Main Duties

  • Conduct detailed assessments of current and planned depot facilities to identify gaps, capacity needs, and improvement opportunities in relation to new rolling stock and enhanced operations.
  • Develop requirements and contribute to the planning and design of depot layout, maintenance tracks, buildings, and equipment specification.
  • Oversee the integration of depot systems—including signalling, power supply, lifting and inspection equipment, washing plants, and automated control systems—with both legacy and new rolling stock.
  • Facilitate technical interface between depot facilities and line operations, ensuring accessible, efficient, and safe train movements.
  • Support the preparation of technical specifications, participate in vendor evaluations, and review supplier proposals for depot equipment and systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering and procurement teams to ensure solutions are aligned with project objectives, operational requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Lead or contribute to commissioning, acceptance testing, and handover of completed depot facilities and equipment, collaborating closely with maintenance and operational teams.
  • Support the development and delivery of staff training, O&M manuals, and depot operating procedures.
  • Ensure depot designs, operations, and processes meet all relevant safety, technical, and environmental standards.
  • Identify risks and propose mitigation measures to enhance depot safety and operational efficiency.
  • Drive ongoing improvements to depot utilization, workflow, and maintenance support in response to operational feedback and project learning.
  • Liaise with cross-functional stakeholders—operations, rolling stock, project management, and external authorities—to ensure depot objectives are achieved in line with broader project milestones.

Profile/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Rail Systems, or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience of relevant experience in similar rail projects.
  • Demonstrable experience in rail depot design, operations, or maintenance facility projects, ideally with exposure to rolling stock introduction and system enhancements.
  • Strong understanding of depot systems integration, layout principles, and rail-specific operational workflows.
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, facility layouts, and O&M technical requirements.
  • Collaborative and adaptable, with a solution-oriented mindset and the ability to engage diverse technical and operational teams.
  • Detail-focused with excellent organizational, communication, and reporting skills.
  • Experience with depot automation, digital maintenance management, or major asset transition projects.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and industry codes applicable to depot operations and safety.
  • Preferably with UAE or GCC experience.
