Ticketing Technical Lead - Bus

Missions/Main Duties

Based in Dubai in the Client’s office, he/she will report to the Project Manager for the specific project assignment.

The Technical Lead will be responsible to supervise and verify the compliance of the systems delivered by the vendors at public transport operator level (ticket vending machines, validators etc) for several transportation systems.

  • Supervise and verify the compliance of systems delivered by vendors, including ticket vending machines, validators, and related equipment, at the public transport operator level for several transportation modes, including BUS, metro, and rail systems.
  • Supervise project delivery to ensure technical compliance with client requirements and contractual obligations.
  • Contribute to project success by demonstrating leadership and proactiveness in supervising vendors, identifying and prioritizing the resolution of technical issues, and preparing technical notes and recommendations for the client.
  • Support the team and client in the definition and execution of migration plans, including those for BUS and multimodal systems.
  • Ensure seamless integration with the overall programme, specifically supporting ABT (Account-Based Ticketing) implementation at the central system level across all modes including BUS.
  • Assist the client during tender stages for the selection of suitable vendors, especially those with expertise in BUS ticketing.
  • Review and validate technical designs, feasibility, and project deliverables, ensuring coverage of BUS ticketing and system integration aspects.
  • Supervise testing and installation activities as required, encompassing BUS ticketing equipment and systems.
  • Support the preparation of Take Over Certification and post-launch supervision for all systems, including BUS operations.
  • Advise the client on technical subjects, including system obsolescence and upgrades in BUS ticketing.
  • Support project management with status reports and technical materials for executive reviews, incorporating analysis of BUS ticketing project components.

 

Profile/Skills

  • Master of Science in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical degree is essential.
  • Professional certifications and memberships in relevant engineering associations and project management are a plus.
  • Minimum 10 years of working experience in the ticketing industry in developed countries, including significant exposure to BUS sector operations. Experience may have been acquired in vendor, operator, or consultancy roles.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with ABT (Account-Based Ticketing) and open-loop projects, covering the full lifecycle from design to commissioning, with demonstrable experience in BUS systems.
  • Experience in upgrading/migration projects involving AFC systems (such as CBT to CBT, or CBT to ABT) is a plus, particularly if involving BUS fleets.
  • Knowledge of integrated ticketing systems encompassing multiple transport modes, including BUS, is highly valued.
  • Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience in public transport ticketing, with a focus on BUS systems alongside metro and rail.
  • Technical knowledge of ABT technology, and open loop, card-based ticketing, QR code.
  • Familiarity with fare validation devices and vending machines for BUS networks is a plus.
