Context

As the Resident Engineer – Systems under the Engineer/Project Management Consultant (PMC) team, you will be the key on-site technical representative overseeing the implementation of all rail systems in a conventional railway project. You will supervise contractors’ system works, ensure design compliance, manage quality and safety processes, and support integration, testing, and commissioning activities on behalf of the client.

 

The Resident Engineer is the technical authority at the project site for all railway systems disciplines, including signalling, telecommunications, power supply, SCADA, cabling, and interfaces with other systems and Civil/ Contractor. The role ensures the proper coordination, installation, testing, and commissioning of rail systems in compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and project timelines.

Missions/Main Duties

  • Oversee daily execution and quality of all railway systems works at site.
  • Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with approved designs, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary systems (Signalling, Power, Telecoms, Control, interfaces, etc.).
  • Ensure proper interface management between civil works and systems installations.
  • Identify and resolve system conflicts and interface issues in collaboration with the client and design teams.
  • Collaborate with contractors, design consultants, and supervising engineers to resolve technical and construction issues.
  • Support integration between subsystems including Signalling , Power (cabling, shelters...), and Telecom.
  • Conduct inspections and audits to verify quality and conformity to standards.
  • Review and approve method statements, installation procedures, test plans, and commissioning reports.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant railway norms, safety regulations, and contract specifications.
  • Monitor and support testing and commissioning of all systems.
  • Verify system performance through FAT, SAT, dynamic testing, and trial runs.
  • Participate in final acceptance, certification, and system handover processes.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, site progress, NCRs, RFIs, and approvals.
  • Prepare daily/weekly site progress reports and raise issues to the Chief Resident Engineer or Project Manager.
  • Support the preparation of technical reports and documentation for regulatory authorities.
  • Liaise with project engineers, design teams, and local authorities (Power, telecome...)
  • Support site audits, inspections, and reviews by clients or third-party assessors.

Profile/Skills

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Systems Engineering, or equivalent

Background:

  • Minimum (10) years’ experience in the required field of expertise for railway projects
  • Extensive experience in rail/transit systems engineering (signaling, telecoms, power, SCADA, etc.).
  • In-depth knowledge of international and local standards and safety requirements (e.g., EN, IEC, CENELEC, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Proven experience in managing multidisciplinary site activities for large infrastructure or rail projects.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • GCC Experience
