Context

The ALTO project is a major infrastructure initiative in Canadian history, aimed at developing over 1,000 km of new passenger rail service between major urban centers, including Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City.

Missions/Main Duties

Provide support to the civil engineering design group using AutoDESK / Bentley / internal programs and offer technical expertise to colleagues or clients for civil and railway engineering assignments. Team member or resource person, as required, for service proposals and engineering studies.

 

Specific Responsibilities/Tasks:  

  • Support the civil engineering department in creating technical drawings.  
  • Produce technical plans from conceptual sketches.  
  • Update existing technical drawings with minimal supervision.  
  • Support project teams in developing specific cost estimates for civil works.  
  • Participate in civil engineering projects, particularly national and international railway projects. Assist in information gathering, participate in various expert assessments, and monitor assigned projects.  
  • Be able to contribute to the development and writing of service proposals and studies.  
  • Perform railway simulations using the internal program.  
  • Finalize all aspects of railway alignments (horizontal geometry and vertical profiles).  
  • Provide design solutions for railway stations and their operational feasibility.  
  • Design railway structures.  
  • Analyze survey data and produce detailed 3D surface models.

Profile/Skills

Experience:

  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience in the relevant field
  • 10 years of experience with the latest version of AutoDESK design software (AutoCAD and Civil 3D) and BENTLEY (InROADS).
  • 10 years of experience in producing detailed profile plans.
  • 10 years of experience in earthworks quantity calculations (embankments and excavations) using alignment design software.
  • 10 years of experience handling LiDAR data or equivalent survey information.

 

Personal Qualifications and other:

  • Very good knowledge of AutoDESK Civil 3D tools and experience in the railway engineering sector, especially in railway alignment design, is required.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
  • Autonomous and able to manage priorities in a multitasking environment.
  • Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Ability to read and understand topographic survey maps.
  • Ability to interact positively with others in a multicultural environment.
  • Significant knowledge of AREMA (American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association) and its recommended practices.
  • General knowledge of hydrology and its effects on railway corridors modeled in 3D with the help of alignment design software.

Language Requirements:

Ability to communicate in both French and English (spoken and written).

 

Note:Passing a modeling test for a transshipment site is required to obtain the position. Details and duration of the test will be communicated to shortlisted candidates.
