Context

The Senior Consultant – Transmission SME is responsible for all aspects of transmission and backhaul network element maintenance to ensure the Sydney Trains DTRS network consistently meets contractual performance metrics. This technical leadership role supports high network availability by providing expert knowledge and support for all transmission network upgrades, changes, incidents, and faults. You will work closely with the client, project teams, and internal stakeholders, reporting directly to the Telecommunications Engineering Manager and functionally to the TLS Manager.

Missions/Main Duties

About the role

  • Lead the technical design, maintenance, and delivery of transmission/backhaul network elements for the Sydney Trains DTRS network.
  • Analyse, diagnose, and resolve transmission network faults using Huawei and/or Nokia configuration and performance management tools.
  • Prepare and update high-quality design documents, management plans, and technical reports.
  • Collaborate effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams to achieve project goals and resolve complex issues.
  • Mentor and support junior team members, promoting teamwork and a positive work culture.
  • Manage project risks, ensure compliance with company quality and safety standards, and support continuous improvements in network reliability.
  • Support business development by identifying opportunities and contributing to tenders and bids.

Profile/Skills

About you

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in Transmission Network Engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Telecoms, Software, or related field).
  • Proficient with Huawei and/or Nokia transmission products (or equivalent platforms).
  • Skilled in logfile, call trace, and event analysis.
  • Experience supporting or deploying cellular networks (GSM-R, LTE, 5G).
  • Knowledge of GSM-R rail telecommunications, cyber security, and virtualised network solutions.
