Context

The Field Inspector is responsible for monitoring and inspecting on-site roadworks to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations. This role involves overseeing construction activities such as earthworks, paving, drainage, and structural works, while coordinating with contractors, engineers, and project managers.

 

The Field Inspector documents progress, identifies deficiencies, recommends corrective actions, and ensures that work is completed according to approved standards, timelines, and budget.

Missions/Main Duties

  • Inspect and monitor daily road construction activities including excavation, grading, paving, drainage, and concrete/structural works.
  • Verify that construction is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental requirements at the worksite.
  • Record site activities, progress reports, materials testing results, and inspection findings.
  • Conduct checks on materials, workmanship, and equipment used in road construction.
  • Report non-conformities and recommend corrective measures to contractors.
  • Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and project managers regarding work schedules, delays, and issues.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, photographs, and inspection reports for documentation.
  • Assist in quality control tests such as compaction, concrete strength, and asphalt placement verification.
  • Monitor subcontractors’ performance and adherence to project requirements.
  • Support in the final inspection and turnover of completed works.

Profile/Skills

Educational attainment:

  • Registered Civil Engineer (Roads and Civil Works), Registered CE with experience in bridge design, Registered Mechanical Engineer. 

Work Experience:

  • 3 - 5 years of combined work experience gained in Project Management, Engineering Design and Consulting Services or Construction Industry.
  • Attention to details.
  • Strong organizational, oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of road construction methods, materials, and safety standards.
  • Certification in construction safety is an advantage.
