Railway Alignment Engineer

Missions/Main Duties

  • Develop horizontal and vertical alignment designs for high-speed railway corridors using industry-standard software (e.g., Bentley Rail Track, OpenRail, Civil 3D).
  • Evaluate design solutions considering operational performance, safety, constructability, environmental constraints, and cost-efficiency.
  • Prepare, review, and update alignment drawings, reports, and technical documents.
  • Coordinate alignment solutions with multidisciplinary teams (civil, geotechnical, structures, MEP, environment).
  • Participate in design reviews with the client and relevant stakeholders.
  • Undertake site visits and route studies to identify constraints and opportunities.
  • Ensure alignment designs comply with international (e.g., UIC, AREMA, EN), client, and UAE-specific standards.
  • Support the development of tender documents, technical specifications, and Bill of Quantities (BOQ).
  • Provide technical input during the construction phase, responding to RFIs and reviewing as-built records.
  • Contribute to risk assessments, value engineering, and buildability reviews related to alignment.

Profile/Skills

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

Background:

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in railway alignment design—preferably with exposure to high-speed rail projects.
  • Proficient in alignment design software (e.g., Bentley OpenRail/PowerRail, Civil 3D).
  • Familiarity with high-speed rail engineering standards and practices.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary coordination, preferably in a consultancy environment.
  • Previous experience in the GCC/UAE railway projects is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication and technical report writing skills.
  • Fluent in English.
