Context

We currently have an opportunity for an Assistant Planner to join our growing engineering team in Birmingham. 

 

This position within our team will suit a committed individual who can demonstrate interpersonal skills combined with commercial awareness and the ability to play their part in growing a dynamic high-performance team.  With a focus on the design of High Speed Rail infrastructure the will also support other Product Lines in the UK and overseas, the post-holder will be part of a growing team of UK management staff delivering projects for a diverse portfolio of UK clients.  

Missions/Main Duties

The Assistant Planner will be responsible for:

  • Information both into and from Primavera   

  • Supporting the identification, reporting and analysing of project issues  

  • Accurate reporting both internally and externally   

  • Good relationships are maintained with all internal and external parties to enhance the reputation of the company  

 

Main Duties 

 

Working in collaboration with our designers and contract partners, the Planner will be involved in a variety of tasks such as:   

  • Working on large multi-disciplinary rail projects    

  • Supporting Tender/Bid Planning  

  • Supporting Project Controls techniques including Earned Value Management, Critical Path analysis.  

  • Supporting the delivery of the Period Programme Update and information regarding changes and delays that have impacted the programme on a period by period basis.   

  • Supporting the communication of all issues identified within the programme are highlighted and understood by Project Team 

  • Support the delivery of the necessary reports to allow Senior Managers to direct the project appropriately   

  • Work on their own initiative, support Progress Meetings and able to communicate clear and concise data to the Project team and the Client.  

  • Support Project Controls Trainees and Assistants in developing understanding of Project Controls activities 

  • Extensive experience of using Microsoft Products  

Profile/Skills

Essential 

  • Working knowledge of Primavera 

  • Good command of written and spoken English  

  • Ability to co-ordinate across infrastructure projects and global design teams. 

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills 

  • Knowledge of financial processes and procedures  

  • Working knowledge of all PC based Windows environments and Microsoft Office suite 

 

Desirable 

  • Experience or interested in working with international colleagues of different technical cultures or on overseas projects 

  • Good command of written and spoken French
