The multi-disciplinary services provided by SYSTRA in all projects comprising of feasibility study, design and engineering, bid documentation, tendering services, environment and social safeguards study, construction supervision and project management consultancy. The services also extended to business planning, policy reform, institutional and organizational restructuring.

We are seeking applications for the position of Environmental Safeguard Specialist for Transport Infrastructure project in South Asia.

 

Missions/Main Duties

  • Ensure all project activities are fully compliant with the environmental policies and guidelines of both the Government of Bangladesh and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
  • Update Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) and Environmental Management Plan (EMP) based on detailed designs; prepare and finalize activity-specific plans as identified in the IEE (e.g., Site Management Plans, Waste Management Plans, Sludge Management and Disposal Plans, Occupational Safety Plans, etc.).
  • Develop and integrate site-specific mitigation measures into contractual provisions for project components, as required.
  • Guide the EPC contractors in the preparation of safeguard documents and facilitate appropriate disclosure at the Project Management Unit (PMU) level prior to commencement of civil works.
  • Conduct environmental training programs and workshops for PMU and contractor staff, following the Capacity Building Program outlined in the EMP.
  • Oversee and monitor the implementation of the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) by contractors; prepare environmental monitoring reports in collaboration with PMU environmental officers and submit them for ADB review.
  • Facilitate dialogue with affected communities, ensuring that their environmental concerns and recommendations are integrated and implemented within the project’s scope.
  • Assist the National Environmental Expert in daily monitoring of EMP implementation, regulatory compliance, grievance redress, and reporting activities.
  • Perform other related environmental safeguard tasks as needed to ensure robust compliance and performance.

Profile/Skills

  • Master’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 15 years professional experience in environmental management, sustainability, or related fields.
  • At least 10 years of experience in environmental safeguards and monitoring.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working on donor-funded development projects.
