Context

hydrological design engineer on a metro (rail/transit) project is responsible for analyzing water systems, managing stormwater, designing effective drainage infrastructure, and ensuring all related civil engineering works are environmentally compliant and integrated with the overall rail design.  This position is to be based at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Missions/Main Duties

  • Hydrological Analysis and Modeling: Conduct detailed hydrological studies, including flood risk assessments, surface water modeling, and groundwater analysis, to determine design flows and potential environmental impacts of the metro project.
  • Drainage System Design: Design comprehensive and efficient drainage systems (culverts, channels, pipes, detention basins, pump stations) for the metro alignment, stations, and associated infrastructure (e.g., roads, depots).
  • Data Collection and Interpretation: Collect and interpret field data, including topography, rainfall intensity, streamflow, and water quality data, using equipment like LiDAR, sonar, and various field instruments.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed technical reports, design calculations, specifications, and drawings for project documentation and regulatory compliance.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all hydrological and drainage designs comply with local, national, and international environmental regulations, codes, and standards (e.g., AASHTO, FHWA, local DOT guidelines).
  • Interdisciplinary Coordination: Collaborate closely with civil, structural, geotechnical, and environmental engineering teams to integrate drainage solutions seamlessly into the project design.

Profile/Skills

  • Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, or a related field with minimum 8 years experience. 
  • Experience: Relevant professional experience in hydrological and hydraulic analysis and design, ideally within large transportation or infrastructure projects (railways, highways, airports).
