Context

The Senior Structural Engineer (Viaduct) will be responsible for leading a team reviewing feasibility works and preliminary detailed engineering for a range of rail, at-ground structures, and stations for a major rail project. Reporting into the Lead Civil Design Manager, the senior structural engineer will be leading a team of structural engineers & inspectors and monitoring the schedule and quality of deliverables to a major rail project.
This is a senior level position for a structural systems subject matter expert. The chosen candidate will have strong verbal, written, presentation and excellent client management skills. Requisite technical skills include demonstrated ability leading and managing the design and detailing of complex transportation structures, with an emphasis on experience and knowledge of the design, analysis, inspection and maintenance of heavy civil structures. This position is to be based at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Missions/Main Duties

  • Assuming responsibility and representing the design division of a major rail project for all aspects related to structural engineering
  • Providing leadership and managing the structural engineering team and assigning tasks and
    responsibilities
  • Implementing structural engineering practices and related standards and synchronizing structural engineering practices and standards throughout program
  • Ensuring members of the structural engineering team are compliant with these engineering
    standards, codes, and procedures
  • Maintaining responsibility for structural engineering integrity
  • Leading external & internal coordination with regards to structural design review
  • Reviews shop drawing and construction-phase submittals when issues arise that require specific technical assistance.
  • Reviews design drawings and specifications at periodic check points as required by the PMP
    milestones.
  • Performing constructability and maintainability reviews, especially as related to structural systems and energy performance requirements.
  • Maintaining quality control and quality standards in all work output, computations, designs,
    drawings, plans, estimates and reports
  • Providing input regarding all energy efficiency and performance standards
  • Developing, implementing and enforcing QA/QC procedures to ensure quality control performed by others is properly implemented throughout the programme

Profile/Skills

  • A bachelor's degree in construction, engineering or related field
  • Minimum 12 years of demonstrable experience in the design & construction of heavy civil
    engineering projects
  • Recently led a team in the delivery of project
  • Capable of operating as technical lead as well as team member as scope and range of project interaction alters accordingly
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the design & construction of heavy civil structural engineering and in depth understanding of how this expertise integrates into a complete project
    Experienced with structural engineering software including SACS, Strucad, Ansys, Abaqus, Inventor, Nastran (Femap), SAP 2000
  • Ability to develop and encourage team member skills
  • High level of intellectual ability
  • Strong and effective decision-making and interpersonal skills
