Context

SYSTRA USA is seeking an Architectural Designer I with approximately 3–5 years of professional experience to support architectural projects for public-sector clients in the New York metropolitan area, with a primary focus on New York City School Construction Authority (NYC SCA) projects.

The Architectural Designer I will support Project Architects and Project Managers in the development of design and construction documents, BIM modeling, and interdisciplinary coordination. Candidates must have prior experience working on SCA projects and familiarity with SCA standards, submission procedures, and documentation requirements.

This role provides an opportunity to contribute to complex public infrastructure and institutional projects within a multidisciplinary architecture and engineering environment.

 

This is a Hybrid position based in our Newark office. The work schedule is 2 days a week in Newark, the rest is remote. Everyone is there on Tuesday, and each team member can choose the other day based on their own schedules 

Missions/Main Duties

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare architectural drawings and documentation for SCA and other public-sector projects.
  • Develop and maintain CAD and BIM models and assist with drawing production across project phases.
  • Support the preparation of Design Development and Construction Documents.
  • Coordinate architectural design with structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering disciplines.
  • Assist Project Architects with responses to client comments, RFIs, and submittals.
  • Participate in internal QA/QC reviews and incorporate review comments into documents.
  • Assist with preparation of presentations, technical reports, and design narratives.
  • Ensure compliance with SCA standards, specifications, and submission requirements.
  • Maintain organized digital project files in accordance with company standards.

Profile/Skills

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from an accredited program.
  • 3–5 years of professional experience in an architecture or engineering firm.
  • Experience working on New York City School Construction Authority (NYC SCA) projects is required.
  • Candidates must demonstrate direct involvement in SCA project documentation, submissions, or coordination.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for preparation of architectural drawings and construction documents.
  • Working knowledge of building codes and construction practices.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Revit / BIM for architectural modeling and documentation.
  • Progress toward architectural licensure.
  • Familiarity with NYC Building Code and ADA compliance requirements.
  • Experience with Bluebeam and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary A/E teams.

Salary Range: $65,000-79,000, SYSTRA USA is providing the compensation range that the company believes it might pay and/or offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
