Context

The ALTO project is a major infrastructure initiative in Canadian history, aimed at developing more than 1,000 km of new passenger rail service between major urban centres, including Toronto, Ottawa, Montréal, and Québec.

Missions/Main Duties

  • General knowledge of the physical environment and its associated issues, including in particular: noise and vibration, greenhouse gases, air quality, landscape, hydrology, geology, and soil and water quality.
  • Participate in impact assessments by coordinating and/or contributing to multiple environmental aspects, including identifying environmental and social impacts, coordinating subject-matter experts in the physical environment, preparing reports, and interpreting results in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Participate in public consultations to gather the views and concerns of citizens, Indigenous groups, and other stakeholders.
  • Understand and support technical teams in achieving client objectives, complying with technical protocols, guidelines, and regulations applicable to the work/projects carried out, as well as the underlying development framework.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between clients and the project team and/or regulatory agencies, as applicable.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing application of quality assurance programs and company policies and procedures, including those related to ethics and compliance.

Profile/Skills

Education: Bachelor’s degree in an environmental field; Master’s degree considered an asset.
Years of experience: 10 years of progressive, hands-on experience in environmental consulting.
Technical skills: 

  • Excellent writing, analytical, and synthesis skills.
  • Strong knowledge of municipal, provincial, and federal environmental standards, regulations, and guidelines applicable to permitting across project stages, as well as to environmental and social impact assessments in Québec, Ontario, and at the federal level.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in French and English.

  • Strong coordination and multidisciplinary project management abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership, autonomy, and sound professional judgment.
  • High rigor, strong organizational skills, and ability to prioritize under tight deadlines.
  • Strong aptitude for communicating and translating technical issues for diverse audiences.
