SYSTRA Canada is an engineering and consulting firm whose primary focus is to offer transportation solutions, whether for passengers or goods: feasibility studies of building a new railway line, increasing the capacity of the existing infrastructure, privatization of a railway.

Context

SYSTRA Canada is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design and modify mechanical solutions for refurbished passenger railcars, translating customer and regulatory requirements into compliant, reliable, and manufacturable designs while supporting manufacturing and on-site installation.

Missions/Main Duties

  • Design and modify mechanical structures, equipment, and interior fittings for rolling stock.
  • Perform layout studies, 3D design, and prepare manufacturing, assembly, and installation drawings.
  • Define technical requirements, select materials and components, and ensure compliance with project specifications and applicable standards.
  • Carry out calculations, design reviews, testing, and technical validation activities with suppliers and customers.
  • Provide support during manufacturing, workshop activities, and on-site installation, and contribute to resolving technical and reliability issues.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including bills of materials, assembly manuals, and installation instructions.

Profile/Skills

Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.

Years of experience: around 2 years experience in a similar role. 

Technical competencies:

  • Knowledge of 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks, Inventor or Catia.
  • Efficient with the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Industry experience or rail transport experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge of FRA, APTA, AAR, SAE, ASME, CSA or Transport Canada rail vehicle standards will be considered assets.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, both in French and in English*
