Context

We have a new opportunity for an experienced Consultant – Transport Modelling/Planning to join our growing Transport Advisory, Planning and Modelling team, based in our Dublin or Cork office with the flexibility of hybrid working. The successful candidate will join a high performing Transport Planning and Modelling team providing strong technical guidance to both existing and new clients across Ireland. The Consultant will focus on developing strategic highway, public transport and/or multi-modal models. With the support of the Modelling and Appraisal, Public Transport and Transport Planning teams in across the UK and Ireland, you will play a key role in delivering/managing projects.

Missions/Main Duties

  • Supports the delivery of Transport Advisory, Planning and Modelling projects in Ireland. Develops technical capability in either transport planning and/or transport modelling, depending on role focus, and contributes to the delivery of high-quality technical work for clients and stakeholders.
  • For roles with a transport modelling focus, supporting the application of the National Transport Authority Regional Transport Modelling System and the TII NTpM, alongside other relevant tools, including the set-up and running of modelling scenarios and the extraction, processing and presentation of modelling results. For roles with a transport planning focus, supporting the development of evidence-led transport planning advice across a range of commissions, with modelling inputs used where relevant.
  • Undertaking technical tasks on small and medium-sized projects, or defined tasks within larger commissions, ensuring work is delivered to the required quality, time and budget. Identifying the information required to complete tasks and supporting the preparation of clear, accurate and well-presented technical outputs.
  • Contributing to a broad range of transport planning and appraisal assignments, including traffic impact assessments, transport assessments, active travel and sustainable transport studies, Appraisal-Based Transport Assessments (ABTAs), scheme appraisal, business case support, and inputs to environmental assessment processes. Supporting work relating to planning applications, infrastructure projects and strategic transport studies in line with Irish national, regional and local policy and guidance.
  • Supporting projects that contribute to sustainable mobility, decarbonisation, and integrated land use and transport outcomes. Working collaboratively with colleagues across Transport Planning, Modelling, Rail Consultancy, Development Planning and related disciplines, and contributing to the preparation of reports and other deliverables to meet project and client requirements.

Profile/Skills

  • Relevant professional experience within Transport Advisory, Transport Planning or Transport Modelling, with scope for flexibility depending on the nature of experience and demonstrated competence.
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills, with the ability to work with complex datasets and apply technical analysis accurately. Relevant experience in transport planning, transport modelling, traffic analysis or a related field.
  • For transport modelling roles, experience using one or more of Cube, SATURN, Aimsun, Paramics, VISUM, VISSIM, or EMME would be beneficial. Experience with the NTA RMS and/or TII NTpM would be advantageous. Knowledge of strategic model development would be beneficial, but is not essential.
  • For transport planning roles, experience in areas such as traffic impact assessment, transport assessment, active travel, sustainable transport planning, appraisal, or development-related transport work would be beneficial. Knowledge of transport modelling and how modelling evidence can inform planning and appraisal would be advantageous, but is not essential.
  • Awareness of the Irish transport and planning policy context would be beneficial, including familiarity with documents and frameworks such as the National Planning Framework, National Development Plan, DMURS, National Cycle Manual, TII guidance, and relevant NTA and local authority guidance, appropriate to level of experience.
  • Good computer skills, including some of the following: GIS, spreadsheets, databases, programming/coding, and statistical analysis. Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to contribute effectively to technical reports and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • A collaborative and flexible approach, with a willingness to contribute to projects in other sectors as required, including Transport Planning, Modelling, Rail Consultancy, Development Planning and related areas.
